Use this checklist to track the tasks you need to perform to find the college that best fits you.
PRE-SEASON
- Meet with your counselor in January/February of your junior year to discuss plans.
- Take the ACT and/or SAT near the end of your junior year.
- Visit your counselor to discuss possible majors and careers.
- Visit your counselor to discuss senior year courses and NCAA eligibility.
- Review transcript yearly making sure compliance is met.
- Develop a list of colleges with your counselor.
- Visit several college campuses.
IN-SEASON
- Apply to at least one college that will meet personal needs if sports is not possible.
- Maintain a good academic standing.
- If highly recruited, meet with your coach to discuss persistent recruiters.
POST-SEASON
- Meet with your coach to assess the potential to play in college.
- Review the NCAA recruiting rules.
- Make college visits.
- Confirm that the right program of study is available at possible colleges.
- Meet with your counselor, coach, and parent to make a final decision.
- Discuss the proper application procedure with college coaches.
